I like to think myself a thrifty person, thankfully that translates into acquiring craft supplies from unexpected sources. This time of year is my favorite because college kids are moving out and throwing away tons of things! Yearly move out weekend is a fun event that I hate to miss. Laundry detergent, cans of food, clothing, sometimes money or gift cards, and almost always art and craft supplies! If you don’t mind getting a little dirty, you can end up finding tons of things that would have other wise been destined for the dump.
This year’s haul included mixed media art pads, paint brushes, markers, and a brand new 18″ x 24″ cutting mat!
By thinking outside of the box (and away from big box stores) you can find or create almost anything you could need at a deep discount!
Other than dumpster diving, here are some more sources:
- thrift stores
- freecycle.org (be sure to join your local groups)
- flea markets check for local ones here
- using coupons at big box stores
- clearance racks
